Weingarten Rights
If you're in a meeting that may lead to discipline, you have the right to representation. Say this:
“I believe this discussion could lead to my being disciplined. I therefore request that my union representative or officer be present…”
Just Cause Protections
Most SEIU Local 888 contracts include 7 Principles of Just Cause—your protection against unfair discipline or firing:

Filing a Grievance: What to Expect
If your rights are violated, your steward can help file a grievance. Here's what happens:
- You report the issue to your steward.
- Your steward investigates and confirms it’s a contract violation.
- The grievance is filed and a formal process begins with management.
- The steward or union rep may escalate to arbitration if needed—at no cost to you.

Check your most recent pay stub. If you see SEIU Local 888 Dues listed, you're a full member.
If nothing is listed, you may not be receiving full union protections and rights.
Only full members get free legal support, voting rights, and full access to union protections—including grievance support and representation during disciplinary issues.
