SEIU Local 888 today announced its enthusiastic endorsement of Mayor Michelle Wu for re-election in 2025.

BOSTON, MA — SEIU Local 888 today announced its enthusiastic endorsement of Mayor Michelle Wu for re-election in 2025, citing her unwavering commitment to working families, transformative leadership, and bold vision for a Boston that works for everyone.

“From school administrative assistants to youth sports coaches to custodians to street outreach workers, SEIU 888 members are on the front lines every day delivering crucial services to Bostonians,” said Mayor Wu. “The Union is a great partner, and I’m honored to have their support.”

“Mayor Wu has proven herself a true champion for working people,” said Tom McKeever, President of SEIU Local 888. “From day one, she’s prioritized the needs of Boston’s workers, delivering real change for those who keep our city running. Her leadership is a breath of fresh air, and we are proud to stand with her.”

Since taking office, Mayor Wu has tackled challenges head-on, including resolving 47 of 48 long-standing open collective bargaining agreements (CBAs). Her administration has set a new standard by ensuring successor agreements are in place before contracts expire—ending a decades-long practice of leaving workers without cost-of-living adjustments.

In addition to addressing these backlogs, Mayor Wu has made groundbreaking strides in uplifting Boston’s lowest-paid workers. Under her leadership, targeted city employees earning less than $60,000 received pay adjustments, reflecting her dedication to fair wages and livable incomes. Her administration has also modernized outdated job descriptions, some untouched for over three decades, ensuring that Boston’s workforce is recognized and compensated for their evolving responsibilities.

“Mayor Wu’s commitment to growing our economy from the ground up and supporting middle-class families shows the kind of leadership Boston needs,” McKeever said. “She stands with workers, not special interests, and her efforts have made Boston a better city for everyone.”

Mayor Wu’s support for Boston’s 911 Emergency Telecommunicators further exemplifies her leadership. In 2022, facing a 45% staffing deficit, she became the first mayor in Massachusetts to recognize 911 operators as “First Responders” through an Executive Order. She continues to fight for statewide recognition and benefits for this critical workforce at the State House, a testament to her commitment to public safety and worker dignity.

Under Mayor Wu, SEIU Local 888 has seen an unprecedented era of collaboration with City Hall. From resolving grievances to advancing labor negotiations, the union has experienced genuine partnership and tangible progress that directly benefits its members.

“Mayor Wu has repeatedly proven that she doesn’t just listen to working people—she acts,” McKeever emphasized. “This election is about securing a future where fairness and equity prevail. SEIU Local 888 will stand shoulder to shoulder with Mayor Wu to ensure Boston continues progressing.”

The union also applauds Mayor Wu’s support for tax relief legislation. This legislation ensures that commercial property owners contribute their fair share, reducing the burden on residents. Her leadership reflects a commitment to equity and sustainability, ensuring that Boston’s growth benefits all communities.

“We’re fired up and ready to mobilize,” McKeever declared. “SEIU Local 888 will rally, organize, and make our voices heard because re-electing Mayor Wu is essential to Boston’s future. Together, we’ll keep fighting for a city where workers and their families can thrive.”
