Major steps are being taken to ensure the safety of outreach workers and neighbors of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard, as local and state officials and community leaders announced new measures to address the recent violence and ongoing crisis in the area.

The ordinance and funding covered today will mark a significant step in ensuring the safety of Local 888 members as they continue their commendable work in outreach and assistance to the many who need it, while confronting those that seek to exploit the most vulnerable members of the community. “As you can see, Local 888 leadership and members are--literally--in the center of these efforts and will continue to press for safety on the job for tireless public servants,” said President Tom McKeever.
