David Reno, Boston Retirement Board
David has been a member of Local 888 for over 35 years. During his time at the Local 888 and our predecessor, Local 285, David has been a fierce advocate for working families in both the workplace and at the ballot. When elected to the Retirement Board, David will protect worker’s hard earned retirement benefits by defending defined benefit retirement plans, moving investment portfolios away from volatile fossil fuel investments and toward green energy, and by making America safe again by investing in our crumbling infrastructure. David has spent decades of his life advocating for labor and progressive causes and Local 888 cannot recommend his candidacy more strongly.
Mike Brady, State Senate, 2nd Plymouth and Bristol
Mike was first elected to the State Senate in 2015 and served as a state representative from 2009 to 2015. Senator Brady is a former Local 888 member and his used his position to be a strong advocate for working families. Mike has accomplished many things in the Massachusetts State Senate, which this session has taken historic steps to ensure equality in student education injecting over $1.5 billion in new state spending into our local schools, passing the PACT act to help combat soaring prescription drug prices, and passing bold legislation to address and to make sure that Massachusetts remains on the cutting edge of mental health treatment and climate change policy.
Senator Brady has a 100% record of voting for labor and is endorsed by the Mass Teachers Association, BTU, Plymouth Labor Council, MNA, Mass AFT, Iron Workers Local 7, Brockton Firefighters Local 144, and Brockton Local 1162.
Erika Uyterhoeven, State Rep 27th Middlesex/Somerville
Erika is an anti-corporate organizer, daughter of a single immigrant mother, and founder of Act on Mass, a nonprofit dedicated to activating grassroots organizers and voters to hold the Massachusetts State House accountable on progressive issues. Outraged by the inaction on the Safe Communities Act and by the lack of funding for public education, Erika worked on Nika Elugardo’s successful 2018 campaign to unseat the House Ways and Means chair.
Last fall, Erika mobilized more than 1,000 Act on Mass members to successfully block a $37 million corporate tax break from being slipped into the budget. A tireless advocate for working families, Erika has been endorsed by Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Mass Nurses Association, Mass Teachers Association, SEIU 1199, Mass Building Trades Council, Boston Teachers Union, Greater Boston Labor Council, Mass AFT, Heat and Frost Local 6, Elevator Constructors Local 4, and Ironworkers Local 7.
Michelle Du Bois, State Rep, 10th Plymouth
Michelle Du Bois is a second-term incumbent state representative and former Brockton City Councilor. This session on Beacon Hill, Michelle went to bat for bills on environmental justice, rent relief and housing stability, and progressive taxation on the rich. Michelle has been endorsed by Massachusetts AFL-CIO, GBLC, Brockton Fire Fighters Local 144, MTA, AFT, Plymouth AFL-CIO; SEIU locals 1199, 509, & 32BJ; Postal Workers Local 1547 and Local 589. She has received the endorsement of Local 888 in each of her races for state representative and this election is no exception.
Marianela Rivera, State Rep, 17th Essex
Marianela Rivera is a union member, single mother, and public education worker from Lawrence, Massachusetts. Marianela’s grassroots efforts helped organize parents, teachers, students, and concerned citizens to save public education during the “No on 2” campaign and the Fund Our Future campaign that led to the passing of the Student Opportunity Act. She is currently working in special education and remains dedicated to equity as she shifts her focus towards running for state representative. In addition to Local 888’s endorsement, Marianela has the endorsement of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and AFT Massachusetts.
Jesse Mermell, 4th Congressional District
Jesse Mermell, a Brookline resident and Boston College graduate, has dedicated her life to serving working people and progressive causes. As the youngest person elected to the Brookline Select Board, Jesse led the charge on climate change by banning plastic bags and styrofoam, updating the Town’s climate action plan, and working with community activists to establish Climate Week, which encourages learning and engagement in Brookline around climate change. Jesse also served as the Communications Director for Governor Deval Patrick where she spearheaded the Strong Women Strong Families initiative, and state Director of the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, where she helped ensure that visually impaired seniors could stay safe and independent at home. Local 888 supports Jesse in the fight for workers’ rights because in Congress she will support increasing the minimum wage, equal pay, earned sick time, equitable investments in transportation, and paid family and medical leave.
Mike Connolly, State Rep, 26th Middlesex.
Mike was first elected State Representative in 2018 when he also received the endorsement of Local 888. Mike has been a fierce advocate for labor and working families sponsoring bills to protect public sector employees right to strike, to allow employees of the committee for public counsel services to unionize, to establish collective bargaining rights for Uber and Lyft drivers to unionize. Mike has also fought against the corporate agenda to privatize Massachusetts public transit and other public services.
Steve Ultrino, State Rep, 33rd Middlesex
Steve is a two-term incumbent from Malden. Steve has always used his position to represent working families and labor. This session he cosponsored a bill requiring
health insurers to provide free co-pays for all COVID-related emergency procedures, as well as cosponsoring bills for rent relief, housing stability, and emergency paid sick leave for workers effected by COVID-19. Representative Ultrino has also led the fight for funding for local aid, and increasing education funds (Chapter 70) for inflation and enrollment increases, securing Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief and Coronavirus Relief Fund funds to provide assistance for schools' reopening needs. Because of this work, Malden will receive $51,206,223, which is a $3.3 million increase in Chapter 70 funding from the 2020 fiscal year.
Paul Donato, State Rep, 35th Middlesex
Paul was first elected State Representative in 2000, and since then has voted with labor 86% of the time. During this session he has voted with labor 100% of the time and supported Local 888’s housing stability and emergency paid sick leave bills. Additionally, Representative Donato has the endorsements of the Greater Boston Labor Council, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, and SEIU 1199.
Greg Hanley, Plymouth County Commissioner
Greg Hanley, is a two-term incumbent running to keep his office as Plymouth County Commissioner. He has been endorsed by Local 888 in each of his past elections and used his platform to fight for working families. Commissioner Hanley is not afraid to take on banks and big business to protect union jobs and has also been endorsed by the Plymouth Bristol Labor Council.
Jerry Parisella, State Rep, 6th Essex
Jerry is a four-term incumbent who was born and raised in Beverly. Jerry is a veteran and serves as Chairman of the Committee on Public Service. As Chairman, Jerry has used his position to protect the collective bargaining rights of state employees and other public employees. Representative Parisella has also received the endorsement of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO.
