Jen Springer named new Local 888 Executive Director
Jen Springer was appointed Executive Director of SEIU Local 888 by President Bruce T. Boccardy on Tuesday, February 28. Springer is well known in city of Boston collective bargaining as a skilled negotiator and veteran labor leader.
Previously, Springer was the Boston-Metro Area Coordinator and Assistant General Counsel at AFSCME Council 93 where she led an initiative between the city of Boston and its municipal unions that resulted in more than $70 million in health care savings for the city of Boston, while preserving quality, affordable health care for union members.
Jen’s negotiating skills have led to countless gains for her members. She served as the Chief negotiator for the union with the city of Boston for several years and her achievements include: the first significant relief from the city’s residency requirement for municipal workers and the establishment of the first-in-the-nation housing trust fund – a joint initiative between the city and the union that has since provided AFSCME and SEIU members with tens of thousands of dollars in financial assistance to meet the high cost of housing in Boston, including new home purchases and foreclosure prevention.
“To bring someone of Jen Springer’s skill level, experience, and reputation to SEIU Local 888 is a profound gain for our members,” said President Boccardy.
Some members of SEIU Local 888 may also remember her from when she worked as a Senior Staff Representative for one of Local 888 predecessor locals, Local 254.

"I am excited to join President Boccardy, the Executive Board and his leadership team at SEIU Local 888 to unite public service and higher education employees throughout Massachusetts."
Springer has received significant recognition for her outstanding labor relations ability. She was recently honored by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO with its Gompers-Meany Merit Award and she is the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Cushing-Gavin Award for Excellence in Labor-Management Relations. She also serves on several prominent Boards, including the Advisory Council of the Department of Labor Relations. To read her full bio, click here.
