EMPLOYEE HEALTH INSURANCE DEDUCTIONS
President Susan McCormick received a letter from Personnel Director Maureen Cruise regarding Employee Health Insurance Deductions. The letter states:
As you may or may not be aware as part of the Fiscal Year 2012 Insurance Budget, the City approved a plan which results in savings to the City's general fund budget and to employees who have health and/or dental insurance coverage through the self funded Insurance Trust Fund plans. The reason that the decisions was made is that the Insurance Trust Fund has a sufficient fund balance to make prompt payment for incurred and unpaid claims and other related liabilities. This decision result in a larger than recommended increase in the monthly premium rates for Fiscal Year 2013. The funding rates will be based on claims experience during the Fiscal Year 2012.
Therefore starting with the payroll checks dated November 3, 2011 and ending with the payroll check of November 24, 2011, all employees whose health and/or dental insurance contributions are deducted on a 52 week basis and a 26 bi-weekly basis, the deductions will be zero. For those employees whose health insurance contributions are deducted on a 40 week basis, the deductions will be zero for the payroll checks dated November 3, 2011 through November 17, 2011.
This means that members should not see deductions for health insurance during the month of November 2011. If anyone has questions please contact Susan.
